Guide to Colored Contact Lenses
Contact lenses are small prescription lenses designed to correct many vision problems and maintain ocular health. However, did you know contact lenses can also give you a whole new look by changing the color of your iris?
Forms of Color Contacts
Colored contact lenses are available in two forms: prescription and plano. Prescription color contacts are worn to correct common vision problems. Plano color contacts are worn for cosmetic purposes to change your eye color rather than correcting common vision problems.
Types of Color Contacts
Colored contacts are a lot more expensive that regular contacts. But, many people feel that it’s worth it because of the ability to change their eye color. Most colored contacts are designed to imitate the natural look of your iris. There are three kinds of tints for colored contacts:
1. Visibility Tint
Visibility tint are faint and don’t affect your eye color. A light blue or green tint is added to a lens to help you see it better during insertion or removal.
2. Enhacement Tint
Enhancement tint is a solid but translucent tint, which is a little darker than a visibility tint. This type of tint enhances the natural color of your eyes, so it’s best for people who have light-colored eyes.
3. Opaque TInt
Opaque tint is a non-transparent tint, which changes your eye color completely. They come in a variety of colors such as hazel, green, blue, brown, and gray. This type of tint works best if you have naturally dark colored eyes.
Choosing the Right Color Contacts
There are a number of factors in choosing the right color. Factors include your hair color and skin tone, but it also depends on the kind of look you want to achieve.
If you’re looking for a whole new look in a more subtle way, you should choose an enhancement tint that defines the edges of your iris. However, if you’re looking for a whole new look that everyone will notice, choose a warm toned contact lens such as light brown if you have naturally light colored eyes.
If you have naturally dark eye eyes, opaque tints are the best choice for you. If you’re looking for a natural look, choose a lighter honey brown or hazel colored lens. However, if you’re looking to stand out from the crowd, choose contact lenses in vivid colors such as blue, green, or violet.
Color Contacts Do’s and Dont’s
Here are a couple of do’s and dont’s to keep in mind about colored contacts:
1. You should care for your contact lenses properly. Make sure you properly clean and disinfect your color contact, as well as store it with appropriate lens care products in order to avoid contamination.
2. You shouldn’t wear your contact if you have red, sore, or irritated eyes. This is probably a symptom of a contact lens related eye infection. So you should contact your optometrist immediately if you experience discomfort during or after wearing contacts.
